Katherine Legge will attempt the Indianapolis 500 and Coca Cola 600 double on Sunday, May 24th. She will pilot the No. 11 HMD Motorsports/AJ Foyt Racing Chevrolet in the 110th running of the Indianapolis 500, followed by the No. 78 Live Fast Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro in the Coke 600. This will be the third consecutive season with a driver attempting to complete the double. Two-time NASCAR champion Kyle Larson drove the No. 17 for Arrow McLaren in the past two Indianapolis 500s, but failed to complete all 1,100 miles both times.
Legge is the sixth driver to attempt The Double. She is also the first woman, first non-American, and oldest driver to attempt the 1,100 mile challenge.
“This challenge is about pushing through perceived limits…taking risks, and trying to do something unique,” the 45-year old said.
Legge has four Indy 500 starts with a best finish of 22nd-place on debut in 2012. She has never attempted the Coca-Cola 600, but has a run the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race at Charlotte. Her lone attempt on a 1.5 mile oval in the NASCAR Cup Series came at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in 2025 with a finishing result of 31st. Legge will likely not have to worry about qualifying into the 600 as there are currently only 40 potential entries for 40 spots.
For Legge and her IndyCar ride, AJ Foyt Racing has put a car on the podium in two of the last three Indy 500s, with Santino Ferrucci finishing 3rd-place in 2023 and David Malukus placing runner up to Alex Palou in 2025’s running. As for her NASCAR ride, Live Fast Motorsports has not attempted the past two Coca-Cola 600 events, but earned an impressive 29th-place with driver-owner BJ McLeod in 2023.
If Legge completes all 1,100 miles, she will stand with Tony Stewart as the only drivers to have achieved that incredible accomplishment.
