The INDYCAR Silly Season bombshells continue to drop as Chip Ganassi Racing announces the departure of six-time INDYCAR champion Scott Dixon at the end of the season.

The New Zealander joined the organization in 2002 after the team he drove for, PacWest Racing, folded due to financial troubles. The following season Dixon won his first INDYCAR championship and would go on to hoist the Astor cup five more times. The driver-team duo also went on to collect 59 wins, placing him second on the all-time wins list, and an Indianapolis 500 victory in 2008.

Now, after 25 seasons with the historic organization, Dixon will take his career in a different direction. Rumors suggest that he could end up at Arrow McLaren next season, potentially replacing Christian Lundgaard who has captured the team’s only two wins and podiums this year. Rumors also suggest the reigning Indy 500 champion, Felix Rosenqvist, could join him, marking the return to the team after a departure at the end of the 2023 season.

CGR issued a statement Thursday morning confirming Dixon’s decision. In the press release, the team revealed they had made Dixon a multi-year offer that would keep him at the organization through the end of his career. However, they respect his decision to choose a “different path”.

“Scott Dixon has recently informed the team that he will not be returning in 2027,” Ganassi said.

“Scott has meant so much to CGR over the past 24 years. Together we’ve shared championships, many victories, and countless moments that have helped define this organization. Because of everything we’ve accomplished together, and the legacy Scott has built here, we believed it was important to give him the opportunity to finish his career at Chip Ganassi Racing, and we made him a multi-year offer to do just that.

“We respect that he’s chosen a different path and wish him nothing but continued success. Scott will always be a special part of this team’s history, and we’re grateful for everything we’ve accomplished together.

“Our focus now is on finishing this season strong with the #9 PNC team while also preparing for the future at Chip Ganassi Racing.”
