Christopher Bell is medically cleared to race following a vicious crash at Michigan International Speedway on Sunday, his team announced. Joe Gibbs Racing confirmed that Bell sustained a fractured left wrist, but will not have to miss time.

On Lap 148 on Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race Bell was hit by Chase Elliott from the inside, sending both cars into the outside wall fast and at a sharp angle. After initial examination and treatment Bell departed the infield care center without speaking to the media.

Bell received x-rays in North Carolina after flying back from Michigan to more fully assess the extent of his injuries. With how hard Bell impacted the outside wall, it wasn’t outside the realm of possibility that he’d miss multiple weeks.

The damage to the SAFER barrier in Michigan’s Turn 3 was severe enough to force a red flag for repairs. Several of Bell’s competitors who witnessed the crash noted its severity on their radios during the race.

“Thank you to each and everyone who reached out to check on me, I truly feel the love,” Bell wrote on X Tuesday. “I’m grateful for my team of doctors, JGR, NASCAR and all of the previous drivers who have helped pave the way for the safety standards in our sport. See you in Pocono!”
