Layne Riggs won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Sunday, his second win of the 2026 season. He found his No. 34 Front Row Motorsports Ford in the lead at just the right time, beating out second-place Kaden Honeycutt and third-place Connor Zilisch.

Like Ross Chastain in Saturday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race, Layne Riggs performed a celebratory bow on the frontstretch in honor of Kyle Busch, who passed away suddenly on Thursday.
The weekend’s Truck Series race was originally scheduled to start on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The field had just begun pace laps when precipitation set in and washed out Friday’s racing schedule. Initially adapting by moving the start time earlier on Friday, NASCAR was forced to postpone it to Saturday morning due to rain. As fate would have it Saturday could hardly even accommodate the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series race, and so the Trucks were postponed again to Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.
To ensure a speedy completion before the scheduled Coca-Cola 600 later in the day, the Truck race was placed under adverse conditions rules. This meant that at 12:00 p.m., the next lap completed by the Truck Series field would be the last one.
Calling Time

The final caution of the race came on Lap 106 when Riggs’ FRM teammate Chandler Smith spun and hit the inside wall. Scoring showed only five minutes until noon, meaning there was a slim window to try and restart the race one last time. NASCAR opted not to resume competition, and Layne Riggs was awarded the win under caution.
“When you’re running against a time clock, what the hell are we supposed to do?” an exasperated Kaden Honeycutt said on pit road. “I feel like if we have to run against a time clock we shouldn’t be racing. These guys pay way too much money, put way too much effort to come over here and run probably 30, 40 green flag laps. Especially when we live 20 minutes away here.
Attrition in the First Stages

After the green flag finally dropped, the race’s first caution came on Lap 8. Shane van Gisbergen, running his first Truck Series race on an oval since 2023, spun out. On Lap 22 the yellow flag flew once again after Ty Majeski’s truck slowed on the race track. From there, the field made it to the end of Stage 1 under green, with Christian Eckes picking up a ten-point bonus.
On Lap 40 Luke Baldwin appeared to have an engine failure, causing his No. 2 Team Reaume Ford F-150 to go up in flames. By failing to finish on Sunday, Baldwin has now been relegated to finishes of 32nd or worse in his last three Truck Series starts.

Poetically, the No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet driven by Corey Day led the field to green on Sunday. Since qualifying was cancelled due to weather, the running order was set based on a metric that heavily weighed in last week’s finishing order. With Day driving the truck initially prepared for defending winner Kyle Busch, he was given the pole position.
Day showed speed in the first two stages on Sunday, but his day came to an end on Lap 47 after contact from Gio Ruggiero. His truck slid toward the inside wall on the backstretch, briefly lifted off the ground, and then slammed into the SAFER barrier. Day was hit again by Mini Tyrrell after drifting back up into traffic.
