On October 30, 2026, Timmy Hill announced that the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Martinsville Speedway would be his final race as a team owner. Hill capped off a nearly eight-year journey with a 31st-place finish. From the lows of failing to qualify for races to the highs of a near-victory, Hill Motorsports has had a fascinating journey in the Craftsman Truck Series.

“A new chapter is ahead. Martinsville will be my final scheduled race as a team owner,” Hill wrote. “I’m incredibly grateful for the people, memories, and support we’ve had. For now, my focus shifts back to where it all started, driving. Those plans coming soon. Excited for what’s next!”

First Seasons

After a four-year Cup Series tenure in the 1990s and a two-year stint in the Truck Series with Jerry Hill, Timmy Hill reopened Hill Motorsports. The Hill brothers, Timmy and Tyler, split the team’s schedule nearly evenly. In four starts in the No. 56 Chevrolet Silverado, Tyler Hill earned two top-20s and a best finish of 11th place. In five races, Timmy Hill earned three top-20s including a fifth place finish at Martinsville. This result is only beaten by his runner-up in the 2022 O’Reilly Auto Parts Series summer race at Daytona International Speedway as his best career NASCAR finish.

2020 was the team’s first full-time season. Once again, the Hill brothers shared a near-even split of the schedule. A pair of ninth-place finishes from Timmy Hill stood as their best results of the season. This, combined with both brothers’ consistency, earned the team a career best 20th-place finish in the owner’s points. The next season saw a slight reduction in their schedule, with the team only attempting 20 of the 22 races held. Gus Dean and Mike Marlar served as ringers at Daytona and Bristol Dirt, while the Hill brothers ran the other 18 races.

While it was Timmy Hill who once again served as the anchor, earning three top-10 finishes in ten starts, Tyler Hill brought the team as close as they ever came to victory. In a chaotic race at Talladega Superspeedway, the No. 56 Toyota Tundra earned a runner-up finish behind Tate Fogleman. Despite the near-victory, the family team fell to 23rd in Owners Points.

The Slow Decline

In 2022 Hill Motorsports ran one full-time driver for the first time, with Timmy Hill piloting the No. 56 in all 23 races. Their group began to struggle, with Hill only earning two top-15 finishes and no top-10s. Despite this, Hill Motorsports improved to 21st in points at the end of the season. Furthermore, 2022 was the only season with a multi-truck effort for the organization; Tyler Hill attempted nine races in the No. 5. These entries included two DNQs and a best finish of 21st.

2023 once again had the Hill brothers splitting the No. 56. The race at EchoPark Speedway brought Hill Motorsports back into the top-10, but the team regressed to a 25th-place points finish. The elder Hill returned to full-time status in 2024; Timmy earned one top-10 and another 25th-place points finish.

To this point, only two races post-2020 did not have a Hill Motorsports truck on the entry list. Suddenly in 2025, the team attempted only eight Truck Series races. These eight starts brought six top-20 finishes (compared to eight in all of 2024), and what proved to be the organization’s final top-10 at Darlington Raceway. Notably, the team intended to run a full ARCA Menards Series East season, but only completed half the schedule after a crash at Rockingham Speedway.

This past season saw the team’s schedule double. In 16 attempts, Hill Motorsports failed to qualify twice, withdrew once, and earned four top-20 finishes.

Looking Forward?

Despite Hill’s announcement, it was not directly confirmed that Hill Motorsports will shut down. Notably, co-owner Tyler Hill has not made a statement about stepping back. The organization has come close to NASCAR greatness and has shown the potential to build to becoming a mid-pack mainstay in the Truck Series. If the Hill Motorsports journey is truly over, it was one of determination, hard work, and performance that any family team would be proud of.
