Team Penske is taking this weekend to commemorate 60 years as a multi-series motorsports force. Josef Newgarden opened the festivities with a win at Phoenix Raceway in the NTT IndyCar Series. On Sunday, Joey Logano will start from the pole at Phoenix as he attempts to keep the party going the NASCAR Cup Series.

When he leads the field to the green flag, Logano will be honoring a special moment for a Team Penske icon. His No. 22 Ford has its usual red and yellow colors, but the paint scheme is designed to resemble the car driven by Scott McLaughlin in his 2019 Bathurst 1000 win.
Already Team Penske has achieved one weekend sweep: pole positions. David Malukas qualified first in his No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet on Friday. Joey Logano followed it up with his 34th career pole on Saturday. Austin Cindric sat on the pole for much of Saturday’s qualifying session, before Logano dethroned him late in the running.
Six Decades of Winning
The storied history of Team Penske began in 1966, when the organization competed in multiple sports car endurance races. In the decades that followed the Penske name expanded to NASCAR, Formula One, IndyCar, Can-Am, Trans-Am, and the Supercars Championship among other racing circuits. The team has won hundreds of races across a diverse array of disciplines, and has stacked over 40 championship trophies along the way.
Notably, Penske drivers are responsible for six championships in the IndyCar Series and five in the NASCAR Cup Series. The team has won the Indianapolis 500 20 times and the Daytona 500 three times. As much as the team’s success has been spread across history, the wins are still coming as often as ever. In January 2026 Porsche Penske Motorsport became the third team in history to win three straight years of the 24 Hours of Daytona.
Penske’s Phoenix Outlook
Though a Joey Logano win would especially fitting for Team Penske’s big weekend, he’s not the only driver hoping to keep team owner Roger Penske on top. Saturday was a rock-solid qualifying effort for the entire organization. Austin Cindric is starting third in his No. 2 Ford, while Ryan Blaney rolls off fifth in his No. 12 Ford. Even Josh Berry, driving for close Penske affiliate Wood Brothers Racing, put his No. 21 Ford tenth on the board.
Team Penske has two wins in the past six races at Phoenix Raceway, including both of the most recent Cup Series finales. Joey Logano won there in 2024 to clinch the championship, followed by Ryan Blaney’s win to cap off the 2025 season. Logano individually has four Phoenix wins in 34 career starts.
