Felix Rosenqvist and Scott Dixon will move to Arrow McLaren for the 2027 NTT IndyCar Series season, driving the No. 6 and No. 7 Chevrolets respectively. The move was first reported on July 1 by Racer’s Marshall Pruett. Ryan Hunter-Reay was also announced to be returning to the driver’s seat for the 2027 Indianapolis 500.

“It’s never an easy decision, but when you have the opportunity to bring drivers of this caliber into your team, you take it seriously,” said Tony Kanaan, Team Principal of Arrow McLaren. Scott’s accomplishments speak for themselves, Felix is this year’s 500 winner and consistently fast and competitive and Ryan has the experience and the capability to win the 500 again, without a doubt. Add that talent to what we have with Pato [O’Ward] who’s knocking on the door of his own 500 win, and we’re the threat we’ve been building up to be in the championship and the 500.”

“Our IndyCar team has shown fantastic momentum, and this lineup of Pato, Scott, Felix and Ryan will strengthen every aspect of our program,” McLaren CEO Zak Brown added. “We’ve got our eyes firmly set on the championship as well as winning the Indianapolis 500 to secure the Triple Crown in the Papaya era. These four drivers bring a wealth of experience as well as great chemistry and will no doubt have a positive impact across our entire team.”

Meet the Drivers

Felix Rosenqvist is the defending Indy 500 champion and currently sits seventh in the championship standings. The two-time race winner has driven for Meyer Shank Racing since 2024, but drove for McLaren the three years prior to that. In his three McLaren seasons, the 34-year-old Swedish driver earned three podiums and a best finish of eighth-place. His stint at Meyer Shank has been a career resurgence; on top of his Indianapolis win Rosenqvist has earned three other podiums and a sixth-place showing in the 2025 championship standings.

“I’m excited to return to Arrow McLaren next season and reunite with Pato, of course, and also Tony, Zak and the crew and engineers I worked with previously,” Rosenqvist said. “There are a lot of familiar faces, and we’ve got an incredible lineup with Scott joining and Ryan returning for the 500. I think our collective experience will be a huge benefit. I’ve still got work to do to finish this season strong, but I’m looking forward to what’s to come at Arrow McLaren.”

Scott Dixon is a six-time series champion and currently sits ninth in the championship standings. The 58-time winner has driven for Chip Ganassi Racing since 2002, driving all but one season there. The 45-year old Kiwi is the 2008 Indianapolis 500 champion and in 25 seasons has only ranked lower than tenth twice. While Dixon appears to be on a slight statistical decline – it has been over a year since the New Zealander’s last win – he’s still an elite driver.

“Joining Arrow McLaren in 2027 is an exciting next step in my career,” Dixon said. “It was a big decision for myself, for my family, and I’m looking forward to contributing to what the team, Zak and Tony are building there. As a New Zealander, being part of Bruce McLaren’s legacy will be special; his spirit and grit are still very much rooted in that team, and I’m excited to carry that on.”

Hunter-Reay is the 2012 IndyCar champion and 2014 Indianapolois 500 champion. The American spent a majority of his full-time career with Andretti Global, driving for them from 2010 to 2021. 2022 saw a majority schedule between Ed Carpenter Racing and Dreyer & Reinbold, and the 45-year old has only run the Indy 500 the past three seasons. Shortly after the 2026 Indy 500, Hunter-Raey became the sporting director at Arrow McLaren.

“I have unfinished business with the 500, and so does this team,” Hunter-Reay said. “Our focus is on Indy; learn from the past, and our number one goal is to win the Indy 500. We have ample amount of time to be fully prepared in working toward a big month of May in 2027 racing alongside Pato, Scott and Felix. The four of us certainly know our way around the Speedway.”

Silly Season Implications

With two new drivers arriving at McLaren, two drivers must leave. Nolan Siegel and Christian Lundgaard will both be seeking other opportunities. Siegel has driven for McLaren since the 2024 race at Laguna Seca. In 35 starts for the team, he has only five top-ten finishes. The 21-year old has earned no top-fives, podiums, or victories, falling short of conventional expectations at McLaren.

The garage entered silly season with Siegel likely on the hot seat, but the same was not the case for Lundgaard. In a season and a half for McLaren, Lundgaard has earned two race wins and ten podiums. The Danish driver is a road course ace, with a worst finish of second on permanent road courses this season. The 24-year old is also the highest McLaren driver in the standings at third place, 29 points and two positions ahead of teammate Pato O’Ward.

“We’ll keep our focus on Christian [Lundgaard] and Pato’s championship fight and Nolan’s work toward top-ten finishes for the remainder of the season,” Kanaan said. “Christian and Nolan [Siegel] have been awesome teammates and they’ve given a lot to help us build up this team the past two years.”

The rumor mill has linked Lundgaard to teams such as Chip Ganassi Racing and A.J. Foyt Racing, while Siegel’s options to stay in IndyCar may be limited.
