The announcement first happened on Wednesday’s episode of The Dan Patrick Show, where Rucker was giving an interview. “We can now announce that I am one of the investors of Legacy Motor Club,” he said. “It’s cool. You know how much I love motorsports. You know how much I’ve loved NASCAR for years, so this is pretty cool for me.”

“Darius is someone who understands the power of connection – with fans, with communities and through storytelling,” Johnson said. “What he’s built in music, the authenticity he brings to everything he does aligns directly with who we are as a Club. We’re excited to welcome him into Legacy and to build something meaningful together.”

In a team statement on the investment, Legacy Motor Club says Rucker will form a connection between sports, music, and fans. “From day one, this has been about building a Club that people want to be part of,” Johnson continued. “Darius brings a different lens, a creative mindset and a passion for people that will help us continue to grow in new ways.”

Rucker joins 23XI Racing’s Michael Jordan as one of a handful of NASCAR owners known primarily for non-motorsports activities. For multiple decades he’s performed in the band Hootie & the Blowfish, whose single “Only Wanna Be with You” hit number six in the United States. As a solo artist Rucker is widely recognized for his recording of the song “Wagon Wheel”, which topped the U.S. country chart in 2013.

Legacy Motor Club presently fields two cars full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series. Erik Jones drives No. 43 Toyota, while his teammate John Hunter Nemechek pilots the No. 42 Toyota. Joining the two on a part-time basis is team owner Jimmie Johnson, who plans to make his final start in the 2027 Daytona 500. Johnson recently revealed Legacy is planning to expand to three full-time cars next year.
