Kevin Magnussen will drive the No. 91 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing this month at Naval Base Coronado, the team announced on Wednesday. The Danish open wheel and sports car veteran will be making his NASCAR Cup Series debut as part of Trackhouse’s Project 91 program.
When he makes his maiden voyage in NASCAR racing, Kevin Magnussen will bring a wealth of road course expertise. The 33-year-old has nine full seasons in Formula One under his belt, most recently for MoneyGram Haas F1 Team in 2024. Since last year he’s competed full-time in the FIA World Endurance Championship for BMW M Team WRT.
“I’m incredibly excited and honored to have the opportunity to compete in NASCAR,” Magnussen said. “What Justin Marks and Trackhouse have done with Project 91 is unique. To provide drivers from outside of the NASCAR world with a chance to compete at this level. I’m proud to have this opportunity.”
History of Project 91

Since Trackhouse Racing debuted the Project 91 program in 2022, three drivers have joined to enter NASCAR Cup Series races. Formula One champion Kimi Räikkönen completed two starts in 2022 and 2023, while future NASCAR star Shane van Gisbergen won his debut at the Chicago Street Course in 2023. Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner Hélio Castroneves then competed in the 2025 Daytona 500, the first time Project 91 entered the Great American Race.
“I’m thrilled to be able to bring back Project 91 again this year, especially at San Diego,” said Trackhouse Racing owner Justin Marks. “We were waiting for the right opportunity with the right partner and driver to bring this Project 91 entry to fruition. Qualcomm is a worldwide brand, and Kevin Magnussen is a global driver, and both are elements we look for when it comes to running Project 91.”
Sponsorship from Qualcomm

Partnering with Trackhouse Racing for Naval Base Coronado is Qualcomm Technologies, who will sponsor the No. 91 Chevrolet. The California-based technology corporation is also sponsoring the course itself, christening it Qualcomm Circuit for June 21st’s 250-mile Cup Series event. Qualcomm last sponsored a NASCAR entry in 2013 with Nelson Piquet Jr.’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Series campaign.
“Project 91 is about pushing boundaries – bringing world-class drivers, bold ideas, and cutting-edge technology into one of the most competitive arenas in racing,” said Qualcomm EVP and Chief Marketing Officer Don McGuire. “With Kevin Magnussen behind the wheel and Trackhouse leading the charge, we’re excited to showcase how Qualcomm’s AI-powered innovations can help teams unlock real-time insights and elevate performance on race day. From our hometown of San Diego to the global stage, this is a powerful example of how advanced computing and connectivity are transforming the future of motorsports.”
