Erik Jones will remain at Legacy Motor Club for multiple additional seasons, the team announced on Sunday. Jones has driven the team’s No. 43 car full-time since 2021.
“I’m excited to continue to be a part of what Legacy Motor Club is building,” Jones said. “I took over the No. 43 in 2021, and it’s become a big part of my career. Through every change, we continue to get better and I’m happy to be a part of that. Especially this season, I feel like we’ve hit on something and been consistent. I’m thankful to get the chance to continue building on that in the years to come.”
This season Erik Jones has two top-fives and five top-10s. He’s currently 21st in the points standings, having made a run at a Chase spot during a summer hot streak. Jones ultimately missed out on his first NASCAR postseason since 2019, but he’s still shown more raw speed than a Legacy car has in years.
Building Legacy Motor Club
Next year Jones will have two new teammates at Legacy Motor Club. Josh Berry and Riley Herbst are moving from Wood Brothers Racing and 23XI Racing respectively. Herbst is driving a third full-time Legacy ride, the No. 84 Toyota Camry XSE previously driven part-time by Jimmie Johnson. Berry is inheriting the No. 42 car from an outgoing John Hunter Nemechek.
“Erik Jones is the cornerstone of what we are building at Legacy — and he has earned that,” said team co-owner Jimmie Johnson. “He has been a part of this organization through every stage of its evolution, and his consistency, professionalism, and knowledge of what it takes to compete at this level are exactly what we need as we bring in new drivers and build toward 2027. Keeping Erik in the No. 43 for the long term was a priority for us, and we are glad to have it done.”
Erik Jones’s Journey
Prior to joining Legacy Motor Club, Erik Jones began his full-time Cup Series career in the Joe Gibbs Racing organization. He ran for the affiliated Furniture Row Racing in 2017 before taking over JGR’s No. 20 car in 2018. Jones remained with JGR for three seasons, earning the first two of his three career wins.
When Jones took over the No. 43 car for a departing Bubba Wallace, the team was still operating as Richard Petty Motorsports. He remained on board when they transitioned to Petty GMS Motorsports in 2022, and then to Legacy Motor Club in 2023. Jones’s first win in the No. 43 car came in the 2022 Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway.
“Erik is a proven competitor in this sport, and he continues to help us improve our cars each and every week,” said Justin Alexander, Jones’s crew chief since the start of this season. “I’m excited to continue working with him in the coming years as we strengthen our performance on track. His experience will also be a real asset to our new drivers as we continue to expand at Legacy Motor Club.”
