Spire Motorsports and Daniel Suárez have agreed to a contract extension for the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series season, the team announced Tuesday. The pairing are currently in their first season together. Suárez has exceeded expectations by putting the No. 7 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the 2026 Chase.
In his first year with Spire Motorsports, Daniel Suárez has experienced a sort of career renaissance. The 34-year-old veteran has a career-best average finish of 15.2 through 32 races. He also scored his third career victory in May, winning the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Prior to joining Spire Motorsports, Daniel Suárez had stints with Joe Gibbs Racing, Stewart-Haas Racing, Gaunt Brothers Racing, and Trackhouse Racing. His Trackhouse tenure, from 2021 to 2025, appeared at first to be his breakout. Suárez won twice in the No. 99 Chevrolet, but a dip to 29th in the standings last season preceded his replacement by prospect Connor Zilisch.
As much as Suárez himself has improved, his presence has also coincided with a resurgence for the No. 7 team overall. Prior to to 2026, the best owner points result for Spire’s second-longest-running team was 26th from Corey LaJoie in 2023. In 2025, Justin Haley placed the No. 7 team 31st. Suárez has the No. 7 car 12th in the owner points standings after the fall Charlotte race, while he himself is 14th in the driver’s standings.
While the pairing of Suárez and Spire didn’t initially appear to be a Chase-contending entry, Spire as a whole has seen greatly improved numbers compared to 2025. Both Suárez and Carson Hocevar qualified for the 2026 Chase, and both drivers have one win on the season. Even Michael McDowell has improved from a 22nd-place finish in the 2026 standings to a 20th-place ranking through 32 races.
