Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing will sell a charter to Dreyer & Reinbold Racing for the 2027 NTT IndyCar Season, per a team announcement on Wednesday. This marks the first sale since charters were implemented in the 2025 season. No price has yet been announced. DRR has only run the Indianapolis 500 since 2021, and have not run full-time since the 2012 season.
“Dreyer & Reinbold Racing announced today that the team has purchased one NTT IndyCar SERIES charter from Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. The transaction is subject to INDYCAR approval,” DRR said on X. “With the possession of a charter, DRR will return to full time with the NTT INDYCAR SERIES competition beginning in 2027 with a one car entry.”
Following the charter sale, RLL will downsize to two entries for the first time since the 2020 season.
Silly Season Implications
No driver announcement for either party was made with the initial announcement Wednesday. For DRR, Conor Daly was mentioned by Bob Pockrass as a favorite to land DRR’s full-time entry. Daly has run two Indy 500s with the team, including a 12th-place finish in the 2026 running. He has run six full-time seasons under his belt, the first being in 2016 and the most recent in 2024.
Graham Rahal and Louis Foster have contracts to drive for the RLL in 2027. The third driver, rookie Mick Schumacher, has said there is a “high chance” he races IndyCar next year. He may have to seek a different seat barring RLL breaking a contract to retain Schumacher.
If Daly does not end up at DRR, Schumacher staying with the charter and moving over may be a possibility. If funding is needed, then a driver such as Sting Ray Robb, Nolan Siegel, Josh Pierson, or Delvin DeFranchesco could fit well with the DRR seat.
In any event, the charter sale throws yet another twist into an already chaotic Silly Season puzzle.
