Charles Leclerc has signed a contract extension to continue driving for Scuderia Ferrari HP through 2028.
Leclerc has driven for Ferrari full time since the 2019 Formula 1 season. His 2018 rookie season was spent driving for Ferrari customer team Alfa Romeo Sauber. During his tenure there, he became the ideal choice to swap with Kimi Raikkonen.
Leclerc proved Ferrari right, winning two races in Belgium and Italy to secure fourth in the standings. The next two seasons were winless, with finishes of eighth and seventh in the standings and only three podiums between them.
2022 was a career season for the Monégasque driver, seeing three wins and a runner-up to Max Verstappen in the championship fight. For the first time in his career, he led the points for the first five races of the season.
2023 was another winless campaign, but he secured six podiums (including three in the final four races) and finished fifth in points.
Two seasons ago was a career season, but 2024 saw the biggest win of his career. For the first time ever, the Monaco Grand Prix was won by a Monégasque driver. Leclerc won two more races that season, finished third in points, and led Ferrari to a near-Constructors Championship.
2025 was similar to 2023, scoring seven podiums and another fifth-place points finish. 2026 has been strong so far, with two podiums, no finish below eighth in five Grands Prix. He currently sits third in points behind the Mercedes duo of Kimi Antonelli and George Russell.
Leclerc has had a successful career so far. He’s captured eight wins, 52 podiums, and a runner-up points finish. But where the 28-year-old is most known for excelling is qualifying. Despite having never driven a WCC-winning car, he has secured 27 pole positions.
Now that it’s confirmed the partnership will continue at least two more seasons, Leclerc and the team are likely to continue winning and securing podiums. But what matters the most to the Monégasque driver is securing his elusive first World Drivers’ Championship.
