John Hunter Nemechek will compete for Haas Factory Team full-time in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series in 2027, the team announced on Wednesday. Having driven for Legacy Motor Club in the Cup Series since 2024, Nemechek confirmed he would not be returning in September. Pye-Barker Fire Safety will follow Nemechek as a primary sponsor.
When the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series season kicks off next year, Nemechek will be behind the wheel of the No. 41 Chevrolet. He replaces Sam Mayer, who’s returning to JR Motorsports in the No. 1 Chevrolet.
Haas Factory Team in 2027
Both of Haas Factory Team’s current drivers are departing at the end of this year. Sam Mayer is headed to JR Motorsports, while Sheldon Creed will move to Sam Hunt Racing. Dean Thompson has been announced as a third full-time entry for HFT, leaving one open seat alongside himself and Nemechek.
“I’m excited to join Haas Factory Team’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Series program,” Nemechek said. “They have championship-caliber cars and personnel, and I’m ready to get to work with this group and compete for wins in 2027.”
Bringing Experience
2027 will mark John Hunter Nemechek’s third full season in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. His rookie year came with GMS Racing in 2019, in which Nemechek ranked seventh in the standings. He returned to O’Reilly competition in 2023 for Joe Gibbs Racing, winning seven times and finishing fourth in points.
In three full seasons for Legacy Motor Club, John Hunter Nemechek has yet to replicate his success from both the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series and Craftsman Truck Series. The 29-year-old is still chasing his first career Cup win, and has a best points showing of 25th last year. With one race to go in the 2026 season, Nemechek is 29th in the standings. Josh Berry will inherit his No. 42 Toyota in 2027.
“John Hunter brings the experience and talent we’re looking for at Haas Factory Team,” said Haas Factory Team President Joe Custer. “We’re excited to have him join our organization and look forward to competing for wins and championships together.”
