Harrison Burton will drive the No. 78 Peterson Racing Chevrolet in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series on a multi-year deal starting next year, the team announced Sunday. Burton will join a new second ride alongside Lee Pulliam’s No. 87 Chevrolet.

Also announced Sunday was Peterson Racing’s relocation to the campus of Richard Childress Racing as the two teams launch an expanded partnership. RCR itself fields two full-time cars, which will next year be driven by Chandler Smith and Carson Brown.

“Our shared goal is to win races, that’s why I came over here,” Burton said. “I believe we can do that. We’ve got good folks at the race shop and we’re gonna have good opportunities to work with RCR, we’ve seen how fast they can be.”

Peterson Racing is still seeking its first win in its first year in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Austin Green started the 2026 season in the No. 87 Chevrolet before Nick Sanchez joined on a part-time basis over the summer. Late model veteran Lee Pulliam also made one start following the announcement he’ll join Peterson Racing full-time in 2027.

“We are excited about adding Harrison to our program and expanding to a two-car operation in 2027,” said Peterson Racing General Manager Chris Seibel. “Harrison is a great fit with what we have built so far at Peterson Racing, and we feel he will be a key piece to our continued growth process. We think that Harrison and Lee make a special combination of drivers and we look forward to them representing us on the track in 2027.”

When Harrison Burton begins 2027 in the No. 78 car, it’ll be his third different O’Reilly Auto Parts Series team in as many years. Burton competed for AM Racing in 2025 and this year he drives for Sam Hunt Racing. Prior to that Burton spent three seasons with Wood Brothers Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series.

After 28 races in 2026, Harrison Burton is presently 20th in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series standings. Last year for AM Racing he ranked 12th. In his first stint in NASCAR’s second-tiered series, Burton won four times for Joe Gibbs Racing in 2020.
