Josh Berry will drive full-time for Legacy Motor Club in 2027, the team announced on Tuesday. The current Wood Brothers Racing driver will take over the No. 42 Toyota Camry XSE from John Hunter Nemechek.
“Legacy Motor Club is an organization that clearly has a vision for where they want to go, and I want to be part of that,” Berry said. “I’ve had a chance to see this team up close and I know what they’re capable of. The way Jimmie has built this place — the people, the culture, the direction — it’s exactly the kind of environment I want to compete in.”
Josh Berry’s 2026
In June, Josh Berry confirmed he would not be returning to Wood Brothers Racing for a third season. He scored his first career win in the No. 21 Ford Mustang Dark Horse last season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but experienced a steep decline in performance to start off 2026.
Things have suddenly changed sharply for Berry, with six straight top-10 finishes through Darlington Raceway. That streak is an all-time record for the 76-year-old Wood Brothers organization. The team is replacing him with defending NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion Jesse Love next year.
Alongside Berry, Legacy Motor Club is expanding to three full-time entries in 2027. They purchased the charter currently leased to RFK Racing’s No. 60 car in a deal with Rick Ware Racing. Starting next year, Riley Herbst will launch that third entry driving the No. 84 Toyota. Five-year LMC veteran Erik Jones will remain in the No. 43.
A Hard Journey to Cup
Prior to joining Wood Brothers Racing, Josh Berry established himself as an elite late model racer in the CARS Tour. He broke into the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driving for JR Motorsports, before ascending to Stewart-Haas Racing in 2024. Legacy Motor Club will be Berry’s third organization in four years of full-time Cup Series racing.
