NASCAR Hall of Fame inductee Tony Stewart is returning to Kaulig Racing’s free agent truck for the Craftsman Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway next month, the team announced Thursday. Stewart previously ran one race for Kaulig at Daytona International Speedway in February.
Prior to making his NASCAR return in February, Stewart was absent from stock car racing since the end of the 2016 season. The three-time Cup Series champion transitioned over to piloting a Top Fuel dragster in NHRA competition, winning the 2025 regular season championship and currently competing in this season’s Countdown to the Championship.
“Anytime you can get into a Ram truck and go racing at a place like Talladega, you jump at it,” Stewart said. “Daytona in February was a blast, but this trip focuses on having fun while helping Kaulig Racing learn and build their notebook on superspeedways. Ram put a tremendous amount of heart into this NASCAR return. If my experience helps this team sharpen its drafting package and speed up the learning curve, everyone wins.”
Stewart’s highly-anticipated NASCAR return in February didn’t go exactly according to plan. The 54-year-old (now 55) qualified 15th but was taken out in a Lap 36 incident with Jake Garcia. He finished 36th in his first Truck Series start since 2005.
In his career at Talladega Superspeedway, Stewart has one win each in the Cup Series and O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Even still, with both those wins coming in 2008, time will tell if racing Talladega is like riding a bike.
