Ryan Blaney and Carson Hocevar were at the center of a post-race brawl at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday. Blaney approached Hocevar after the race, visibly furious after Hocevar wrecked him on Lap 458.
Both drivers appeared to land punches. Hocevar swung first after Blaney grabbed his firesuit and pushed him backwards. After crew members pried Blaney away he stood up and charged back toward Hocevar, landing a clean left hook before the brawl dissipated at last.

From the moment Blaney was interviewed after exiting the infield care center, it was clear he intended to confront Hocevar at the first opportunity. “Something’s gonna happen…tonight,” the Team Penske driver told media before the race’s conclusion.
In the recent past NASCAR has set a precedent of penalizing drivers who instigate physical altercations. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. was docked $75,000 for punching Kyle Busch following the 2024 All-Star Race. Two of his crew members were suspended for their roles in the dust-up.
The incident began during a battle for second when Hocevar’s No. 77 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet slid to the inside of Blaney’s No. 12 Team Penske Ford. Hocevar visibly had a run, and Blaney made the move to attempt a block. Hocevar seemed not to lift as they entered the corner, spinning Blaney up and into the outside wall. The damage to Blaney’s car was significant enough that he couldn’t continue on.
“I wasn’t trying to wreck him,” Hocevar said. “It just looked like to me I got a run and kinda went left. He spun, I spun him. There wasn’t a whole lot of talking, he just kinda like said one thing and then went after me. And I wasn’t gonna take it.”
“I tried to protect the bottom and he crossed and never lifted and [I] got crashed,” Blaney said. “I got crashed, so each person’s gonna say they did nothing wrong.”
Blaney finished 33rd, dropping from fourth to sixth in the Chase standings. Having entered the night 33 points out of the lead, Blaney is now 52 points behind. Hocevar hung on for a third-place finish, ascending from ninth to eighth in points. Still, he only improved from 88 points out of the lead to 85 points down.
