On Saturday, qualifying for the NASCAR Cup Series ‘Jack Link’s 500′ at Talladega Superspeedway was cancelled due to inclement weather. With 40 entries to start, one open entry would be bumped from the starting grid, this team being the No. 62 Chevrolet of Casey Mears for Beard Motorsports.
The one-car operation was scheduled to make six starts for the 2026 season, but have failed to make the field twice now due to unfortunate circumstances, including missing the 68th running of the Daytona 500 with Anthony Alfredo back in February.
“It rained on our parade at [Talladega Superspeedway],” Beard Motorsports posted to X on Saturday. “Qualifying is canceled for rain. With 41 cars trying to make the 40-car field for the Jack Links 500, we are the odd man out as the field is set by current owners’ points. We’ll be back with [Casey Mears] to get him to 500 starts. Stay tuned.”
As mentioned by Beard Motorsports, driver Casey Mears is working to reach 500 career NASCAR Cup Series starts, where the 48-year-old Bakersfield, California native currently sits at 495.
It has yet to annoounced whether the team will make up to their two DNQ’s later on this year. The remaining schedule for Beard Motorsports has team making their next starts at Indianapolis Motor Speedway (July 26), Daytona (Aug 29), Talladega (Oct 25), and Homestead-Miami (Nov 8).
