Toyota Turns Heads: Hamlin and Kyle Busch Disqualified After Pocono! (Summer, 2022)

All eyes were on Toyota heading into the Pocono Raceway weekend with major storylines.

First, Ty Gibbs — the grandson of Joe Gibbs — made his NASCAR Cup Series debut this weekend, stepping in for Kurt Busch after Busch was injured in a practice crash. Meanwhile, Kyle Busch’s future remains uncertain as contract negotiations appear to have stalled. His teammate, Martin Truex Jr., is still fighting for a spot in the championship battle, and Denny Hamlin delivered a phenomenal performance at the Tricky Triangle to take the win—until both he and Kyle Busch were unexpectedly disqualified.

A gut-punch of a result for Hamlin, as the race would have secured multiple milestones for the Chesterfield, Virginia, native. He’s no longer the all-time Pocono Raceway winner with seven wins and is no longer tied with Tony Stewart for 15th on the all-time wins list at 49.

Believe it or not, there is so much more to discuss in this episode of Above The Yellow Line from silly season rumors to a preview of the upcoming race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course, the Verizon 200.
